Senator Speiers introduced SB861 today that would amend CA's law against BSL.  While it still prevents an all out ban, it's still BSL!!  Cities would have the ability to ban pit bulls without banning them by passing different regulations against pit bulls including but not limited to insurance requirements.

We also need to watch the State Assembly as Assemblyman Leno will certainly introduce a companion bill shortly.

We can not allow this to happen!!  Senator Speiers bill MUST be shut down ASAP!!!  We need to send a message loud an clear enough is enough!   This incident should NEVER have happened and the mother has admitted to an unbelievable amount of irresponsibility so why should innocent dogs be targeted?   I Senator Speiers also introducing a bill to regulate parenting based on the same incident?

Non CA residents:  We need to start emailing and mailing letters.  Please remember to be calm, cool and collected when writing to legislators.  Write a letter you would read if it was being sent to you.

California Residents: Please start calling your Senators and Representatives and ask meet with them!  Get your friends, family and neighbors to call and voice their opinions asking them NOT to support any amendment allowing for any type of regulations by breed.  Get the letters and statistics in the mail!

Please check out the fight BSL section for flyers on BSL and Pit bulls that you can start plastering all over the pet stores, vet's groomers, etc in an effort to start educating people!

Thanks to Jan Cooper here is the Text of the bill

California Senate Website:  http://www.sen.ca.gov/

Yes that is where it has landed. They would prefer hard copies and faxes.

Here is what to expect thanks to Jan!

"There will have to be a policy committee hearing in the Assembly. My
guess is they will redirect it to Rules (probably at Thursday's floor
session) and then it will get to sent to another committee. There does
have to be a hearing in an Asm committee before it can get sent to the Asm floor. If it passes both of those it will go back to the Senate for
concurrence in Asm. amendments. Technically there should be another policy hearing in the Senate since a policy committee in the Senate did not approve the language in the bill, but they can waive that and send it
straight to the floor.

We are being told there will be a hearing on the 29th!!!  We need to FLOOD them with faxes phone calls and emails!!!!
