Our dog is in alot of pain and we want to help him and can not bear to watch him suffer. The lady that hit him is not willing to help us out and we have paid the hospital $1,000 in cash but the estimate with surgery will be $6,000 and we need some kind of help with a loan that can help us make payments. Due to Nigel's age we know this surgery is necessary for any quality of life later, otherwise he will be lame on both legs and our only other option would be to put him down. We have invested much time and money into Nigel's care since we adopted him from New Hope Animal Foundation and have done extensive training with him and a personal trainer. I have had a very hard life especially for only being 1 1/2 yrs old. My previous owners did not care for me the way they should have they allowed me to have puppies. They also neglected me meaning I had two bacterial ear infections and I was infested with fleas so bad I had no fur on my back and rump. I also had a skin infection from the fleas. I also have heartworms I had for about 8months says the vet. I found myself away from my puppies and running the streets. I found a buddy to run with. I had no tags or collar. (See I told you my people did not care) I also have no microchip. My new friend did not have any of these either. On April 20th 2006. I found a nice lady named Brandi Roth. I was running in front of her house with my new friend. She saw us run in front of cars and invited us into her fenced in backyard. She feed us and gave us clean water. She put up flyers and a ad in the paper. No one called to claim us. Oh did I mention, She gave us flea baths after we had been there only one day. The next day she put some stuff on us to make the fleas stay away. I think it was Advantage. ;) Oh, we got to play with her german Shepard named Dutchess and a really nice 10 yr old little boy. After one week and still no calls about us. Brandi and her Husband Mike took us to the vet on 4-27-06. My buddy they started calling him Rebel they found a nice vet tech at the office to adopt him and give him a wonderful home. I saw the vet and he looked at my ears and skin he made me mad when he checked me for mange (see I said my skin and ears were bad;( ). It was negative. YEAH But, he also checked me for heartworms and found out I have them. He sent me home with meds and ear drops. After 1 week with my new mom and dad and little boy and new furry friends. I felt alot better. I started to return all the love these new people has shown me. I get to sleep in their bed at night, lay on their couch during the day, and give a whole lot of kisses. They have taken me to the beach, to the pet store and let me pick out my new toys. I have had alot of fun with them in just the three weeks I have been with them. My hair is growing back very nicely I have no more draft back there (haha). My ears are much better too. But I need to ask for your help now. My new owners need a little help in getting me treated for the heartworms. I am going to let them tell you about it because it just makes me to sad to think about it.
Hi my name is Brandi Roth. I found this beautiful little Staffordshire bull terrier running the streets in Saint Petersburg. She told you she had a friend and her story up until now. The only thing she does not know is that I called around to all the local shelters when I found her and no one would take her. Because they said she was a pit bull. I found one local shelter that would and they would just put her to sleep. I could NOT let that happen. everything else you know. We have fallen in love with this beautiful baby girl. I think she was sent to us by our lab mix and/or shepard mix we lost last year. One was to arthritis and old age and the other to bone cancer. Which is why we are in a financial bind. We spent over 4000.00 dollars on treatment and amputation for our Gypsi. But I would not trade it for the world. We plan on taken very good care of our newest addition we are even going to put her on the same insurance as our other pets. I have always been the person that will help any other animals if and when they need it lost or abused or neglected or just as simple as left in a car with no one with them. Do you realize how many people I have chased down in stores while my husband stayed with the car. Also how many times I have called the poplice because of it. My family jokes with me saying we have an sign in my front yard that only animals can see saying if you are lost come here Brandi will help you. I have even had them lay in my driveway and wait for me to come home. is that wierd or what? I will never forget the cat I found with a 10' chain attached to his collar that he got caught around a tree in my driveway I had to get him unstuck and he ended up going to friends of animals he had hiv. The stories could just go on and on but back to my point. My vets office knows when I find a animal with no collar or tags because I always call to say I am coming in so they will scan them for a chip. Even last night when walking my now 3 dogs. I had a boston terrier come up and tryed to fight with my chihuahau. He had no collar so I picked up my chi. took the leash off of his harness and handed him snarling and growling to my husband which had Dixie. Told him and my son which had Dutchess the shepard to go home and my husband to get the car. I then chased down the hyper terrier to leash him. then about five mins. later here comes his owner looking for him. Happy Ending. Yes, I also have a German Shepard we got from SPCA for my 10 year old son he was devastated when we lost our 6 yr old lab/rott. mix Gypsi that we also got from animal services when she was 8 wks old.. Within 3 weeks of losing her we had to make the decision to put done our oldest Sonya due to old age and spinal arthritis. all but three of her vertebraes had fused together and the predisone and amaryl was not helping anymore. We also rescued her when she was about 1 1/2 yrs old from a local car lot that had her tied to a tree with a leash and was scared of her so they would open a can of food and push it up to her with a stick. I ask if I could have her they said if I could get near her I could. It is amazing what a pork chop with do! haha. From then on she was ours. We found out she also had hearworms 1 year later it took that long for them to show up. But she was so bad with them she was critical. The same vets office did her treatment then its was back in 1993 when they still used the iv in the vain method. We put her back on heartguard and she still had a wonderful full life with us after that for about 13 years she was my husbands baby girl. She was a great nanny dog for our son. but anyway back to Dixie and I need to wipe my tears away because I still miss my babies. She needs to have this treatment asap per the vet so any help I can get would be appriciated. I just get so frustrated with this because I have done so much for other org like my local spca I donated 2 cool-a-roo beds after I lost Gypsi and Sonya and donated an med size dog crate to them as well. When I need to ask for one favor in return and try to get help with a stray I find suddenly no one can help. But it will not keep me from continuing to help the pets in need. I am sorry I just had a temporary aggrevation moment. I really hope you can help and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Lisa notified us on 04/25 that ""Butterscotch"" was put on the PTS list due to Kennel Cough. David and I agreed to pull him, and Lisa agreed to put him in Isolation for up to (2) weeks until he recovered and we would move him to Tuscon to Adopt a Bull.

It cost $780.00 then a follow-up visit that cost us $190.00. after the tumor was removed ab;ut 3 to 4 weeks later we noticed she was lethargy, so we took her back to this same vet. without even examining her he told us she had pyometra and it would cost us $1290.00 for surgery. we did not have that kind of money so we took her home. 2 weeks later she was getting worse so i got on the phone and called diff. animal hospt. and vets to see if some one could help me out, to no avail. finally, i called the animal hospt. in Torrance, CA to inquire about putting her to sleep since i could not afford to pay for her medical. the Dr. at the animal hospt. in Torrance told me that if i could come up with $680.00 he would do the surgery for pyometra. well when he did the surgery he said that he was not impressed that it was pyometra because her insides was too clean, not like pyometra. The Dr. removed her uterus and ovaries anyway since ""Jade"" had never been spayed. I was told to pick her up by 8am the following morn. which i did. a week afer the surgery i noticed these lumps in her stomach; one as big as my hand and Jade was having some difficulty moving. I was told to bring her in because it sound like she was allergic to the sutures. I took jade in another Dr. looked at her and said she thought the lumps were mamary glands and maybe cancerous. I could not beleive that because before the surgery she never had these, anyway the charged me $90.00 which i was not expecting to be charged since it was a follow up and was involving her surgery anyway i had to pay the $90.00 (bill money). then i started taking her to another vet. who would always give me all kinds of meds. for jade and then would change the meds. with each visit (more money i didnt have, plus i was stuck with all these meds. the dog was no longer taking. (wasted money).
The lumps on her stomach eventually starting going away. She developed worms i went to petco and bought deworming meds. she was doing fine. On saturday we took her to the vet. regarding the worms thinking her would do a specimen to see what type of worms she had (lil white worms) but all he did was give us more meds. I explained to him that i had bought deworming meds. from petco but he said that was ok to just take he meds. he was going to precribe eventhough, i had already given her the other medication. We asked him about her limping and being not steady on her legs all of a sudden and he said that i was due to all that she had been through in such a short time and they billed us ($70.00) and sent us on our way. We did not know what was wrong with her and did not have any more money. we have spent like $3000.00 and we just did not have anymore money, so we made a much thought about and heartwrenching dicision to put her down. we we arrived at animal control I met a nice lady by the name of Rita Lasman, who told me to take my dog home and she would do everything in her power to help me to get the medical care my dog needed in order to live. Jade it turns out had a herniated disc in her back. the surgery is 5,100.00. I did not have a dime of the money. we applied for Carecredit and was approved for $3600.00 so we are trying to get the balance of her bill. Jade had surgery on 5/22/06 evening and will be in the hospt. for 3 days. The Hospt. allowed us to use the $3600.00 as a down payment and we have to have the balance when we pick her up. I don't know if you rec'd my application or not. My fingers are sore from typing between scholarship apps and financial add apps for my dog, so I will summarize quickly here. I can provide more detail if you did not receive the app I previously filled out.
Hooch is a 5 yr. old AmStaff/APBT. Nuetered. UTD on vacs/titers good Distember and Parvo and HW preventive. I cofounded North East Rottweiler Rescue and Referral, but now work on my own or with For the Love of Dog or Animal Rescue Referral Network of NE. I was called about 4 yrs ago to eval 2 pits at the Pelham NH dog pound, which had been confiscated from neglectful/abusive owners. We vetted the dogs, nuetered/spayed,etc. Through cooperative efforts with the Salem Animal Rescue League (SALEM, NH), the female was adopted out. No one suitable could be found for Hooch. Hooch spent nearly 10 months in shelters. I took him because I could not bear seeing him in a tiny, dark cage for months on end. He had an ear infection when I officially ""adopted"" him. He has since had chronic allergies, Lyme Disease diagnosed, chronic ear problems, skin infections, knee/cl problems. He is my $10000 free dog. The current issue is painful ears that after having seen at least five different vets, used baytril, tresaderm and cholorhexidine, as well as allergy shots have not responded to treatment. The ear clinic for pets, Dr. Dutton (603-529-4999), had to anesthesize Hooch and do a deep ear cleaning. The reason for the anesthesia is that Hooch was in excruciating pain upon examination with a swab. He is a good natured dog. The right ear drum was totally deteriorated and has resulted in major hearing loss. The left ear drum was intact but also showed signs of middle ear infection. Both ears had to be flushed with use of a video otoscope ($20K of machinery that most vets don't have), cleaned and scraped and antibiotics put in there. The cost of the 2nd opinion exam was $52. THe cost of yesterday's cleaning was $237. The vet says he needs 3 more of these procedures at 2 week intervals over the next 6 weeks. The total cost will be $900-$1050 assuming nothing goes wrong. He is in considerable pain. In addition to Hydroxyzine, he is now on Prednisone. I was planning to use him as my working therapy dog. He is an AKC CGC, ATTS TT, and registered with TDI. Because he has been in such excruciating pain, I have not been able to start therapy work for fear he will associate pain with his work. I was laid off from my job after returning from short term disablility due to sleep apnea/surgery. I collect unemployment at $408 before taxes. My rent is $700. I have spent close to $2000 on Hooch this year, and nearly $3000 last year on VETS alone. I have tried acupuncture, holistic, herbs, even chiro (thinking his head tilt was nuerological/muscular in nature, but is due to ears). I am enrolled as a full time college student to try to get a better paying job. I have applied to 200 companies since Feb. No luck. I can pay one more month rent and then have to vacate premises. I am divorced, no kids. I have an ailing mother. I live with my exboyfriend and we are only roommates (separate rooms). He is taking up 1/2 my share of the rent, no utilities included. He can't help with anymore than that. I get no public assistance because I don't have kids and get a small income and live w/someone even though I support myself. If I can't treat Hooch, I will be forced to surrender him. As you know a dog with his medical issues and breed stigma has little chance of being adopted. We couldn't even adopt him when he was ""healthy and young"". His best chance is with me. He is an outstanding rep of the breed and after being through so much, he deserves a chance to live a pain free or close to it life. I have seen at least 10 vets, acupuncturist, herbalists, chiropractors and have done everything they told me to do. My quality of life stinks, as well as Hooch's at this point. I have to constantly try to distract him or scold him for digging at his hears or licking his feet. He is a good rep of the breed and has done much to show people what true pit bull temperament is. I have endured personal sacrifice to pay for his vet bills and can't do it anymore. I support myself. I suffer from depression/bipolar disease as well as fibromylgia. Losing Hooch or worse euthanizing him due to these painful ears, will be devastating needless to say. I am at the end of my rope. THank you. She gets so excited with you talk to her or pet her that not just her tail wags - but her entire body wiggles. Once she gets calmed down she loves to just lie on your lap and sleep (all 51 pounds of her!)

She is also SO gentle! She won’t take a treat from you until you say 'take' then she sticks out her tongue for you to place the treat on, then she slowly brings it in her mouth. The children in the town I live in in Nebraska LOVE her and she loves kids! She'll let them put silly hats on her, or paint her nails - just lying there with a smile on her face.

For the last several weeks - since she has stopped using that leg - she has become growly and nippy. She even went after a friend of my moms growling, barking and nipping at her. The vet says this is because she is in pain and scared and should stop when her leg is fixed. I don't want my sweet loving dog to go mean, I couldn't handle that!

Last October my families’ world fell apart when my mom was diagnosed with advanced Cancer. She spent several weeks in a coma and several months in the hospital. I quit my job and came out to take care of her. Now my dog is not well and I can't afford to help her!

I have one charge card that is maxed out and bills that need to be paid. The vet will let me make payments when I need to, however, the U of M wants full payment. I have one loan that is past due and another that I have managed to keep current. I really do not need the added expense of a dog, but, bills will wait, this dog cannot. I am willing to pay anything I can, but $400 - $500 is out of the question nad logically it should be applied to keeping the house running. My family wants and deserves an answer as to whether or not this dog is safe to be around and I want the dog to be able to have a good life if that is possible.

I just want to know if the dog is OK and can be kept by anyone or if he is uncontrollable and needs to be put down.","Spear","9 to 18 Months","male","no","Pit Bull (APBT","Rescued from an abusive situation","While working one day I located a dog that was being mistreated and

He is the sweetest thing though.

While working one day I located a dog that was being mistreated and
abused. Never thinking I would own a dog, I just couldn't let the poor thing be treated like that so I told them if they ever wanted to get rid of it to call me and they called before I left the driveway.

He was purchased for fighting I believe and they said he has never been fought, however, there are scars on his face. There were several other dogs, tied and roaming and she said this one had a bad attitude.

11 month old male pit bull, I don't know what to do with him, I thought I would give him to a good home. Unfortunately, he lunged at someone quite inappropriately and now there are concerns of unnecessary aggressiveness that I need to have diagnosed. I contacted the University of Minnesota who originally told me the cost would be about $200-$250 and I could handle that. Now, however, the real cost is going to be $400-$450 and I cannot swallow that. It would be almost cheaper to have him put down but I don't believe that one incident (after moving from one enviroment to another) is enough to make me do that. I have since found out that no one will look or feel at ease with him unless he is ""evaluated"". It is also the safest thing to do, I would never forgive myself if he were to hurt someone.

He has been the kindest, sweetest dog and has a dog buddy that he
cannot wait to play with, surprisingly enough his buddy is a male. So I know his aggressiveness is not towards other dogs, I think.
The U of Minnesota referred me to you and I cannot locate a Minnesota
based rescue on your site.

Thank you for your consideration.

He had the sweetest face and was not scary, even though he weighed over 100 lbs. I wasn't looking for a Dog that big, but after talking to someone who worked at the animal control, I found out that they haven't had much luck finding an owner for him because of his size. I took one last look at his sweet brown eyes before running home to tell my husband I had found our new baby. We went up to the pound the next day 05/30/06 and paid the money to rescue him. Because we were so excited to get him we didn't notice Cliffords Severe limp until after we had gotten him home and bathed. The next day we took him to the vet and found out that he has two torn acls on his back knees, and needs surgery. Right before we adopted Clifford, my husband injured his knee at work, and the company has no workman's comp, so he has been unable to work more than 10 hours a week as his job keeps him on his feet working as an after-school director. We have a high house payment and were only expecting to pay for basic care for our new dog, not pay $2400 for two surgeries. After finding his diagnosis I got in contact with the humane society of lewisville who has been helping us with keeping the Vet and prescription costs down. So far we have paid $250 in office visits and Rimadyl, and have received donations of rimadyl and glucosamine (to ease his pain)

Box 177","","Wilton","California","95693","916-204-3407","559-285-3424","brandy.duncan@gmail.com","","","12 days ago, Patty put Peaches in a crate at 10:30 p.m. and when she let her out just 1 1/2 hours later, her front right leg was completely lame and she was obviously in great pain. Patty took her to Hatton Vet (Dr. Ku - 916-689-1688)the next morning and got several x-ray views of her leg (total $331.00). There was a questionagle are on her front right leg (humerus bone), however, the view that was taken did not present a clear picture. After new x-rays were taken (total $141.00)it is suspected to be bone cancer. Peaches has been put on pain meds(refilled yesterday total $43.40) I am requesting funds in order to obtain a definitive diagnosis and determine the best course of treatment for Peaches from the experts at UC Davis. The estimate from UC Davis is $800.00. This includes a biopsy, chest x-rays and an ultrasound which I was told is the only way to obtain a difinitive diagnosis.

Peaches is not just your average run of the mill nice pit bull. She is truly exeptional. After being pit fought for several years, and then being turned into a breeding machine, Peaches was confiscated as evidence when her owner was arrested for his dog fighting activities. Peaches (formerly known as Sandy)was then held at the Sacramento County Shelter as evidence for about nine months, where I met her when I was volunteering. During this time she was held in a 6x9 kennel with little human interaction, but her positive nature never faltered. She became a favorite of the staff and volunteers alike and was always happy to see anyone who ventured by.

Standard policy for pit fought dogs after their evidence hold was complete (at the time) was automatic eauthanasia. The judge decided to tranfer Peaches to the SSPCA for evaluation after being bombarded with letters and calls pleading for Peaches to be spared. Peaches not only represents the best of this breed coming throught the worst circumstances and triumphing in ways trhat no one ever expected, She also inspires people to unite to save these dogs that are so often maligned. Everywhere peaches goes she is the center of attention and there have benn countless strangers who have met her who have stated that she has changed their view of the breed and that is BEFORE hearing her story. Peaches has a long list of character references, and I often jokes that if Patty ever got hit by the proverbial bus it would be the only case in history where the lawsuit was over not who gets the money, but who gets the dog.

Patty, peaches official owner, has also been a champion of this breed. She Co founded the Sacramento SPCA ""We Pay to Spay Program"" for Pit Bulls and Pit Bull Mixes. As of last count, this program had spayed/neutered close to
3300 pit bulls and pit bull mixes.

Patty is also the direct reason that SB 861 was altered to include the language which states that no breed or breed mix may be declared dangerous or vicious. She worked with Senator Speier's cheif of staff Richard Steffen and was able to get the Senators office to change the language of the bill. This was also Partly because of Peaches inspiring story.
While Patty is very proud of all of the rescue work that she has done (she has placed somwhere around 200 foster dogs, most of them Pit Bulls) She is feeling a tremendous sense of guilt now that one of her own., and ICON no less, needs her help and she is not financially able to do all she wishes she could.

I don't know if this situation meets all of the requirements, but I'm hoping for a little latitude when you consider both who Peaches is and what Patty has done for the breed.

If he is not adopted, he will be put to sleep. I do know the previous owner and I do know the dog. I used to pet sit him A LOT. The owner cannot reclaim him because the vet bills are too high and he doesn't have a place for the dog in his new home. I LOVE this dog but the vet bill due to the surgery is looking close to $2000. It will be hard for me to come up with this money on my own. I am currently in escrow buying a house located in Las Vegas, Nevada. I was told that the dog will need hip surgery. We are a family of 8. 5 humans and 3 canines. Our newest addition is a purebred pit from a friend of our youngest daughter who was moving and needed a home for him. His name is Taz and he is almost 4 months old.
Taz isn't sick, but he does need any help you can give...
We are both full time students and live off of loans and grants and summer is always hard, but this summer has been unbearable. It seems like everything is going wrong. We are on the verge of loosing all our utilities and have already lost our car insurance for the only vehicle we have to get to school to get the money we live off of. The gas prices are nickel and diming us to death and to be perfectly honest, the bank has taken alot of any money we had coming from selling some of our stuff on ebay.
The dogs have been eating people food for over a week now as we have no money at all and can't seem to borrow any...no one seems to care that the dogs aren't getting what they need. Our food stamps only go so far and we are almost out of those and don't get more until the 11th of August. Taz, Max and Brandy are great and loyal dogs and it pains me to see them hungry. Hot dogs, oatmeal, cold cereal, mashed potatoes, and milk have been rationed out to them. If you can help, we would be blessed. We have used Nutro Max forever and I just sent for a coupon on their website for a free 5lb bag, but it said it would be 2-3 weeks.

Paul has stayed in touch over the years and constantly calls with updates on Anna. He has proven to be a wonderful bully owner. However, Paul is very low income. He was injured in an accident and is on disability. He does work part-time but his income is very limited. He always makes sure Anna is well cared for. She receives her routine veterinary care and she eats well!! Paul adores Anna and is desperate to provide her with the surgery she needs. His vet is offering a discounted rate but it is still out of his financial reach. Second Chances Pit Bull Rescue is NOT a 501(3)(c). Debbie Jaworski operates this rescue using her own funds. We are able to donate $100 toward Anna's surgery but unfortunately, that's all we can do. Since we are not a non-profit, we can not fund raise for Paul. Any help you can provide would be SO MUCH appreciated. Anna is in extreme discomfort and we hope you can provide some form of support. By the way, you are all wonderful!!
